KARACHI, Jan 9: A newly-married woman was allegedly set on fire by her husband’s brothers in Gadap. She is under treatment at the Civil Hospital in Karachi.

Eighteen-year-old Noori is reported to be receiving threats from her in-laws to withdraw a case filed on her behalf. An FIR 6/2007 was registered at the Shah Latif Police Station on the basis of her statement to police.

A police officer associated with the case said Noori’s brothers-in-law had reportedly set her on fire when she refused to quit her job as a domestic servant.

“Threats are being hurled even in the hospital by my in-laws and it seems that some policemen are also backing them,” Noori told Dawn. She defended her husband by describing him as innocent.
