SWABI, Jan 3: Rejecting Pakistan government’s decision to fence and mine the Pakistan-Afghan border, the president of the Awami National Party (ANP), Asfandyar Wali Khan, has said it is a conspiracy to divide about 35 million Pushtoons living on both sides of the border.

Talking to different delegations in Charsadda, Asfandyar Wali said that fencing and mining was not the solution to the elimination of scourge of terrorism, adding that it had also been rejected by the Karzai government.

He was of the view that fencing and mining would exacerbate problems for the people as about 35 million Pushtoons lived on both sides of the border.

The ANP leader said that the Durand Line agreement had expired in 1993 and the Pakistan government could not pressurize the Karzai government to recognize that agreement.

Referring to the execution of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussain on Eid day, Mr Asfandar Wali termed it humiliation for all human beings. He urged the world community to raise their voice against the hanging.

Referring to the current political situation, the ANP leader said that his party would participate in the upcoming elections.

Commenting on the issue of Kalabagh Dam, he claimed that it was anti-Pashtoon project and it would be opposed by his party.—Online
