HYDERABAD, Dec 31: Pakistan Muslim League (N) chief Nawaz Sharif has invited Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party chairman Dr Qadir Magsi to attend an all party conference in London.

STP spokesman said in a statement on Sunday that Mr Sharif telephoned Dr Magsi to invite him to attend the APC. He lauded the role of the STP in the struggle against the ‘military dictators.’

According to the STP spokesman, during his conversation with Dr Magsi, Mr Sharif stressed the need for all the democratic parties to unite on one platform against dictatorship and said that the parties should strive together for restoration of true democracy in the country and appointment of an independent election commission.

He said the army ‘dictator’ had destroyed democratic institutions and trampled over human rights.

Dr Qadir Magsi accepted the invitation and told Mr Sharif that his party believed in democracy.

Dr Magsi said that the Pakistan was a multi-national state and without giving complete provincial autonomy to the federating units, democracy was unthinkable.

Therefore, he said, it was necessary for all the federal parties to include the issue of provincial autonomy in their manifestoes and add this point to the agenda of the movement for restoration of democracy.

He said that end of military rule, supremacy of parliament and constitution and independence of judiciary were must for protection of the rights of smaller nations.

Mr Magsi assured Mr Sharif that his party was ready to join the movement for restoration of democracy.

PML: The Hyderabad chapter of the ruling PML has appealed to President Gen Pervez Musharraf, Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim and the party leadership to get rid of ‘opportunist elements’ in the Hyderabad chapter of the party to strengthen it in the district.

Speaking at a news conference, the president of Hyderabad city chapter of the PML, Rao Mohammad Iqbal, Jehangir Kaka, Rao Umer Daraz and others said that that ‘opportunist and insincere’ people had taken over the control of the party in Hyderabad district.

They said that the people were using the party platform for their personal interests and as a result sincere workers had become demoralised. They said the workers were the strength of the party and urged the Sindh chief minister to encourage the sincere workers.
