PESHAWAR, Dec 28: A meeting of the NWFP Assembly’s Standing Committee on Agriculture and Livestock was held here on Thursday to discuss problems of the farming community and production of oilseed crop in the province.

According to a press release, the meeting, presided over by MPA Iftikhar Ahmad Jhagra, discussed the situation of fruit and vegetable markets in different cities of the province.The committee constituted a sub-committee headed by MPA Javed Mohmand to probe illegal recruitments in Baffa, Mansehra, Pir Sabak and Nowshera, and directed the officials concerned to submit a report in this regard.

The Adviser to Fruit and Vegetable Market, Peshawar, gave details of the budget allocation for the fruit and vegetable committee.

He said that the existing market committee had earned Rs7.19 million in one year, while the previous committee, during its six-year period, had earned only Rs6,53000.

He proposed establishment of police checkpoint and a bank branch on the Inquilab Road, where the district government had established the vegetable market.
