HYDERABAD, Dec 28: The discharge of water downstream Sukkur Barrage on Thursday was recorded at 4,014 cusecs and the water release from Manchhar Lake was only 90 cusecs, which was strictly within the safe limits, said an official handout issued by district nazim secretariat on Thursday.

The remained within the set ratio of 1000 cusecs lake water discharge to 50,000 cusecs of Indus water, it said.

The Hyderabad district government reiterated that it was supplying contamination-free water to people after getting it analysed every four hours by noted water technologist Dr Ahsan Siddiqui.

COMPENSATION: Hyderabad District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil on Thursday distributed cheques for Rs600,000 to the heirs of three people who had died in 2004 after drinking water, which was mixed with contaminated water of Manchhar Lake.

Hussain Ali, brother of a late Ms Guddi, 12, Chetan, father of late four-year-old David and Arbab Ali, father of late two-year-old Ahsan received cheques for Rs200,000 each.
