Partial strike in Sehwan against Lasmo

DADU, Feb 17: On the call of the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz, a partial strike was observed in Sehwan on Sunday against non-recruitment of local people at Lasmo’s Bhit Jabal project and non-payment of compensation for the lands used by the multinational company for gas exploration.

A large number of citizens, activists, villagers and women staged a demonstration in front of the press club, Sehwan Sharif.

Demonstrators were led by the chairman of the JSMM, Shafi Mohammad Burfat, vice chairman, Basheer Shah and others.

Speaking to the demonstrators, they said that due to drought in the Kachho and Kohistan areas the inhabitants were suffering from various diseases, but they had no food to eat and money to buy medicines for their ailing family members.

They said the only source of their income was the cattle herds which also destroyed owing to non-availability of water and chaff in the areas.

They complained that LASMO was not providing jobs to the locals, who had first right on them. They alleged that the company was recruiting people from other areas.

KILLED: Three armed robber barged into the house of Zameer Hussain Bhatti in Mansoor colony, Mehar town late Saturday night.

On resistance, they killed Zameer Hussain Bhatti on the spot and beat up his son, Ashiq Hussain Bhatti, severely.
