Two Eids in NWFP likely

Published December 27, 2006

PESHAWAR, Dec 26: The people in the NWFP and adjoining areas are likely to celebrate Eid on two different days as the local ulema here have decided to go against the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee’s decision to observe the religious festival on Jan 1.

They plan to observe Eidul Azha on Sunday (Dec 31).

A statement issued here on Tuesday on behalf of Mufti Shahabuddin Pupalzai said that ulema from different parts of the province held a meeting at the Qasim Ali Khan Mosque and ‘unanimously’ decided to celebrate Eidul Azha on Sunday.

The provincial government had earlier formed a five-member committee to decide about the sighting of moon and said that local committees would not be authorised to make any decision in this regard.
