SUKKUR, Dec 26: A murder case was registered against five policemen, including SHO Rohri, at Jhangro police station on Monday night, following the killing of a villager by the police in a fake encounter near Ali Wahan, Sukkur.

It may be mentioned here that Hidayatullah Solangi 22, resident of Ali Mardan Solangi village, was on way to his village. When he reached near Ali Wahan, a police party of Rohri signalled him to stop. On his refusal, the police opened fire killing him on the spot. Later, the shifted his body to an unknown location.

Hundreds of villagers, including women and children carrying the Holy Qura’n, staged a protest demonstration and shouted slogans against the police. They staged a sit-in at Ali Wahan toll plaza for six hours and burnt tyres, due to which entire vehicular traffic between Punjab and Karachi was suspended

from Babarloi bypass up to Pano Akil.

In the meantime, the taluka Nazim of Rohri, Aslam Shaikh and Additional DPO of Sukkur, Nisar Channa, reached on the spot, and tried to convince the protesters to end the blockade, but the protesters refused and demanded registration of a case against the SHO of Rohri, Ali Mohammad Mahar who, according to them, was responsible for the incident.

Later, the police shifted the body to Rohri taluka hospital for post mortem.

Later, on the complaint of Ghulam Murtaza Solangi, uncle of the deceased, an FIR U/s 302, 337, 148, and 149 PPC was registered at Jhangro police station against five policemen including, SHO of Rohri, Ali Mohammad Mahar, head constable Mumtaz Mahar, police constables Mumtaz Shar, Ali Nawaz Mahesar, and Imran Hashmi. Besides this, on the orders of the RPO Sukkur, the DPO Sukkur suspended all the five police officials. However, no arrests were reported.
