LAHORE, Dec 23: Prolific goal scorer Ahmed Ali Tiwana stole the show to guide Candy Land to a thrilling victory in the Punjab Police polo cup crushing Dewan Motors 9-5 in one-sided final on Saturday.
The losers made a perfect start taking 3-1 lead in the first chukker and at that stage it seemed it would be a thrilling final. But the way Ahmed excelled, scoring seven goals out of a total nine, the result was a foregone conclusion.
Always struggling four-goal James Harper of England drew first blood for the losers, scoring a field goal on his solo efforts. Abdul Haseeb Metha made it 2-0 also scoring a field goal in similar fashion as the losers went ahead 2-0, before Ahmed started his way and struck first field goal under the neck shot to make it 2-1.
Harper, the most experienced players of the final between two teams, kept Dewan Motors ahead 4-2 scoring two more in the second chukker.
First Harper cashed in on a 60-yard penalty hit with a lofted shot then he fired home with a field goal off a fine pass from Haseeb. Vishal Singh, an Indian top player, converted a 60-yard hit for the winners to reduce the lead (4-2).
From the third chukker, Candy Land started domination to seize complete control as they scored five more without conceding any to gain 7-4 lead for the first time. Ahmed scored four while Asif Tiwana one, all on field attempts.
The Man-of-the-Final, Ahmed scored two more in the fourth chukker after James Harper struck his fourth as Candy Land completed the tally.
Earlier, four goals by Shaukat Ali Malik and three by Junaid Ahmed propelled Security 2000 to grab third position, beating Guardian Securities 9-6. The winners had two goals handicap.
For the losers, Umar Sadik (3), Naveed M Sheikh (2) and Agha Murtaza Ali Khan (1) were the scorers.
