PESHAWAR, Dec 23: The local police on Friday registered their maiden FIR under the Protection of Women Act against a man accused of kidnapping a college girl here for the purpose of marriage.

The University Town Police Station registered the FIR under Section 365-B of the Pakistan Penal Code, incorporated through the Protection of Women Act (PWA), against Muhammad Rassan and two unidentified men.

The case was registered on the complaint of Abdul Nawaz, father of the girl named Shakeela, who claimed that Muhammad Rassan had kidnapped her daughter to compel her to marry him. She is the first year student in a local college.

The complainant had lodged the complaint on Dec 18 which was recorded in the daily diary. As the police had not received the PWA copy from the government, the police kept the complaint pending and on Friday it was converted into a proper FIR.

“This is the first case registered by us under the Protection of Women Act,” an official of the town police station told Dawn. He said the police had registered the case and were searching for the girl and the kidnapper.

A resident of Danishabad, the complainant claimed that his daughter had been kidnapped by Muhammad Rassan, a resident of Mardan.—Bureau
