NEW YORK, Dec 22: The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution jointly tabled by Pakistan and the Philippines for promoting inter-religious and inter-cultural dialogue.The resolution represents an important step in global efforts to promote respect, dialogue and understanding among different cultures and religions.

It proposes convening of a high-level dialogue to promote tolerance, understanding and respect for all religions.

It also requests the secretary general to designate a focal point in the UN secretariat for a follow up on all inter-religious, inter-cultural and inter-civilizational matters.

It underlines that right to freedom of expression by media is also imperative for protection of rights and reputation of others.

The adoption of resolution reflects a vital role of the Pakistan leadership in important world issues.—PPI
