SWABI, Dec 21: Members of the international advisory board of the Ghulam Ishaq Khan (GIK) Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology have emphasised the need for conducting research at the institution according to the requirements of the country.

Prof S. Suhail Zubairy, UK, and Dr Zahid Ayub, US, visited the institute on Thursday. A spokesman for the institute said the advisory board comprised scientists, engineers and academicians from America, Europe and other parts of the world.

Six other members of the board are scheduled to visit the institute in January.

“Research is absolutely vital,” said Prof Zubairy. “However, meaningful research needs a lot of resources which should be generated.”

He said that at the international level, universities were evaluated on the basis of research they carry out.
