BADIN, Dec 21: The Model Police, Badin, on Thursday arrested Mithan Mallah, President of the Fisherfolk Forum of the Badin district, and Sajan Shaikh, a fisherman, on charges of illegal fishing from waters, and sent them to jail.

Police said a case had been registered on the complaint of Mazhar against eight men, including activists of Fisherfolk Forum, for allegedly fishing from his ponds.

Meanwhile, representatives and activists of the Fisherfolk Forum Qasim Mallah, Abdul Salah Memon and others, while condemning the police action, have demanded immediate release of the two arrested men. They threatened to launch a drive if the arrested men were not released immediately.

Speaking at a hurriedly-arranged gathering of the fishermen, they alleged that the police action had been taken at the instigation of some feudal lords and officials of the Fisheries Department.
