BEIJING, Feb 17: Twenty-five people were killed on Sunday when a bus plunged nearly 300 metres off a road in China’s southern Hunan province, the official news agency reported.

Another 12 people were injured in the accident, the Xinhua news agency reported. The bus had been carrying 60 people.

On Saturday another 10 people were killed and 48 injured when a bus overturned and fell off a 105-metre slope in southwest China, Xinhua said. The accident occurred at noon on Saturday as the bus, carrying 58 people, was travelling along a road near Yanjing town in Chongqing municipality, the Xinhua news agency reported.

Eight of the injuries were characterized as serious, according to the agency, which said “driver inexperience” could be the cause of the accident.

The accidents took place as Chinese roads were flooded with people returning to work at the end of the week-long Lunar New Year holiday.—AFP
