LARKANA, Dec 15: The raid commissioner of the Qambar-Shahdadkot district and sessions court found a man in illegal confinement at the Sujawal Junejo police station during a surprise visit on Friday.

Raid Commissioner Ali Mardan Sangi told journalists in Qambar that detainee, Gulbahar Deenari, had been tortured.

The victim’s brother Roshan Ali Deenari of Sujawal Junejo had moved the court with the plea that police had arrested him last week and detained him without registering a case. He alleged that police were demanding bribe for his brother’s release.

The sessions judge had asked the raid commissioner to locate the detainee.

The duty officer at the police station did not present any documents showing the arrest.

The SHO has been asked to appear in the court of the additional sessions judge, Shahdadkot, with documents regarding the arrest on Saturday and the detainee has been released.

PRISONER DIES: An under-trial prisoner, Ali Mardan Kharos, 60, died of paralysis in Chandka Medical College Hospital, where he had been brought from the central prison on Friday.

He was facing a case of attempted murder registered with Ratodero police. The body was handed over the relatives of the deceased, who belonged to Ratodero.
