SUKKUR, Dec 12: A girl sold for Rs20,000 by her father when she was only three years old under an agreement that she would be given in marriage refused to accept the deal and this angered the latter who tried to kidnap her from her home on Tuesday.

Ms Kariman, 20, told newsmen that her father Mohammad Sarki had sold her to Mohammad Yousuf Sarki 17 years ago for Rs20,000 but now she refused to marry her buyer because he was a criminal.

She said that her refusal enraged him and he tried to kidnap her with the help of his accomplices when she was alone in home in Zaman Sarki village near Thull.

When Mr Yousuf and his gang barged into her home and tried to take her away she raised alarm prompting villagers to come to her rescue. They informed police, which rushed to the place, reports said.

As they saw police approaching the house, the kidnappers took to their heels while firing in the air, reports added.

Police had so far not registered any case.

KILLED: Armed thieves shot dead a man and injured five of his family including his wife and two sons when they resisted their attempt to take away buffalos in Asif Colony in the limits of Abad police station on late Monday night.

Reports reaching here said that Dost Ali Malik, 50, died on the spot while his wife Sahib Khatoon, sons Ali Hassan and Soomar and two other relatives suffered wounds when the armed thieves opened fire on them after they resisted their attempt to unfasten buffaloes.

The thieves, however, managed to take away with them two buffaloes, a single barrel gun, and an unspecified number of valuable belongings.
