Swat roads closed by rain, snow

Published December 11, 2006

MINGORA, Dec 10: After a pause of three days, rain and snowfall again started lashing the Swat valley on Sunday, forcing people to remain indoors.

The snowfall caused closure of roads in the area, and brought about a sharp fall in temperature.

The Kalam-Mingora road has already been lying closed following last week’s snowfall when a big avalanche struck the road, cutting Mingora from upper parts of the Swat valley.

Residents fear if the road is not cleared soon, it will lead to shortage of food in many areas.
