JACOBABAD/SUKKUR, Dec 9: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said that the government is trying to bring an end to tribal feuds in the province and jirgas (tribal assemblies) had proved useful in this regard.

Years-old Ogahi-Teghani bloody dispute had been settled by a recent jirga inn Kandhkot, he said and added that another jirga would be held soon to settle Mahar-Jatoi dispute and it would be followed by efforts to resolve other tribal rows.

Mr Rahim was talking to newsmen on Saturday at the residence of Sardar Ghulam Sarwar Sarki in Dera Sarki near Kandhkot where he had gone to attend the Valima of his son.

The chief minister announced that inhabitants of Ibrahim Haideri, a huge coastal settlement, would be given propriety rights.

About leasing out of two Karachi islands to a Dubai-based firm, he said that the (scarcely-populated) islands had not been in proper use and they wanted to develop modern cities on them. The project would provide job opportunities for youth, he said.

The chief minister denied that any fisherman had been evacuated from the islands but hastily added that compensation would be paid to those who were shifted from the islands.
