Gang-rape victim fears for life

HYDERABAD, Dec 5: A gang-rape victim, Nadira Parveen, deposing before district and sessions judge Zafar Ahmad Sherwani on Tuesday, said she feared for her life as ‘I am being chased by henchmen of my tormentors.’

"While coming from Punjab to attend the inquiry proceedings, I was being constantly followed by the henchmen of my rapists," said a terrorised Parveen, a resident of Kunri, Umerkot district, who has taken refuge with her relatives in Punjab to ‘escape persecution by her tormentors, one of them an influential taluka nazim.

She has told the court that she was ‘twice’ subjected to gang-rape at the behest of Kunri Taluka Nazim Jam Memon due to political reasons.

Perveen had served as a polling agent of Memon’s opponent in last year's local bodies elections.

The sessions judge directed the Cantonment police SHO to record a statement of her husband.

The defence counsel cross-examined Perveen after which the inquiry was adjourned for the day.
