Body on water and sanitation set up

PESHAWAR, Dec 5: The NWFP government has set up a provincial coordination committee on water and sanitation to review implementation and enforcement of legislation, policies, standards and guidance related to drinking water and sanitation.

According to a notification issued here, secretary of the local government, elections and rural development department (LG&RDD) will preside over the seven-member committee.

Members of the committee include chief engineer of the public health engineering department, director-general of the Environmental Protection Agency, one representative each from the provincial departments, Local Council Board, Local Government and Rural Development Department, Unicef, World Bank and local government and rural development department of Fata.

The committee may co-opt any organization or expert as its member, as and when deemed necessary.

The objective of the committee is to set up a provincial forum for safe drinking water and sanitation, review implementation of legislation and policies related to water and sanitation and review annual report on the state of drinking water and sanitation in the province.—APP
