Newborn’s mother killed in firing

MARDAN, Dec 2: A woman was killed and three other people suffered injuries when robbers opened fire at them in the wee hours of Saturday. The incident took place at around 5am when the family was returning home from a hospital where the woman had delivered a baby boy at 3am.

Ms Noor Zia, her husband Bakhtyar and two other relatives were coming back to their Bakhshali village from the DHQ hospital in a car when a gang tried to stop them but the driver, identified as Shahid, accelerated.

The robbers opened fire killing the mother of the newborn and injuring the other members of the family. Bakhtyar was taken to the Lady Reading Hospital with serious wounds.

Locals gathered outside the house of the victims and condemned the incident. They demanded arrest of the attackers.—Correspondent
