PESHAWAR, Nov 29: A meeting of the NWFP Assembly’s standing committee on schools and literacy was held under here on Wednesday. The committee, which met under Habibur Rahman, discussed matters referred to it by the provincial assembly.

The meeting reviewed the adjournment motion jointly moved by MPA Abdul Akbar Khan and MPA Jamshed Khan about allocating grade-17 to senior English teachers (SETs) and appointment of class-IV and transfer of employees in the education department. It also discussed the resolution moved by MPA Ikramullah Shahid about introducing Pushto as a compulsory subject up to middle-school level.

Referring to the resolution moved by Ikramullah Shahid, the committee directed the education department to take up the matter of introducing regional languages as compulsory subjects with officials of the Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan governments and inform the committee in the next meeting.—APP
