HYDERABAD, Nov 27: The Sindh National Congress (SNC) has said that no one, whosoever he may be, has the authority to sell Sindh’s lands or abolish Sindhis’ quota in educational institutions and employment quota in different public organisations in Karachi.

The congress in its first anniversary held on Saturday demanded that the government should reserve 25 per cent quota for Sindhi students in all professional educational institutions of Karachi and 25 per cent employment quota in all public, private and multinational organisations based in the city.

This was stated by the congress’ newly-elected president Dr Dodo Mehiri. He also announced election results of the congress at a news conference on Monday.

He said that the congress believed that all the land and resources of the province including Indus River belonged to Sindhis.

Sindh generated 70 per cent of revenue for the federation, still the province remained in the clutches of poverty and unemployment because it received nothing in return, he said, suggesting that each province should provide revenue according to its representation at the federal level.

Mr Mehiri claimed that a unitary form of government had been imposed on Pakistan for last 60 years, which had made democracy a misnomer, allowed military rule and frequent foreign interference.

Announcing election results of the congress, he said that Pir Jalal Shah had been elected vice president, Dr Arbab Khuhawar general secretary, Bagh Ali Bughio joint secretary, Ghulam Qadir Burdi coordination secretary, Wasif Ali Khaskheli information secretary and Akram Soomro treasurer.

The congress also elected a 12-member working committee, he added.
