KHOST, Nov 21: A suicide bomber targeted Nato-led troops handing out supplies to school children in eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday, injuring two of the children, officials said.

Two other Afghans were also injured in the attack when the bomber approached the Nato-led International Security Assistance Force convoy in Khost province, ISAF and a local official said.

No soldier was injured in the blast, and the four Afghans were being treated at a nearby military base, the alliance's press office said in Kabul. The bomber's nationality was unknown.

“The troops were part of the PRT (provincial reconstruction team). They were attacked by a suicide bomber but there were no military casualties,” Salim Kamran, the provincial spokesman, said.

He was referring to a civil-military unit deployed across Afghanistan to help reconstruction and security of the war-ravaged and impoverished nation.

Also on Tuesday two ISAF soldiers were wounded when a landmine planted by suspected insurgents exploded in southern Panjwai district in Kandahar.—AFP
