Published November 22, 2006

MARDAN, Nov 21: A representative jirga from different walks of life gathered at the Circuit House Mardan where they expressed their concern over the closure of the Punjab Regiment Centre Road for the public and demanded immediate reopening of the road.

The authorities of the Punjab Regiment Centre have closed the road for the public.

The road not only connects Takhtbai tehsil, Baghdada, Muqam Mandi and Katlang to Mardan city but also Swabi, Buner districts and Malakand agency. People, particularly locals, have been facing a lot of problems ever since the closure of the road.

The jirga was called by the nazim, Union Council Baghdada, Hamayun Khilji, in the Circuit House, which was attended by a large number of people, including the district nazim, tehsil nazim, traders, lawyers, social organisations, nazims and office bearers of local political/religious parties.

The participants expressed great concern over the barricade of the Punjab Regiment Centre Road and said that it was the only approaching road for the people of the city.

The speakers recalled that from the last 150 years, no conflict or dispute had occurred between the locals and Punjab Regiment Centre;. therefore, it had no reason to close the road for the public.
