KASUR, Nov 19: Five members of a family were burnt alive early on Sunday morning when a house caught fire reportedly due to a short circuit near Khudian, some 20km from here.
Reports said Rehana Kausar, 35, was asleep at her house in Kot Shahabuddin locality along with her four children Gulshan, 9, Tahira, 7, Mohsin, 6, Ehsan, 4, and her niece Rabia, 8. Suddenly, the furniture caught fire which engulfed the family. Rehana and her four children were burnt alive while Rabia was rushed to DHQ hospital where she was reported to be in a critical condition.
Kasur police are investigating.
ACCIDENT: A man was killed while 26 others sustained serious injuries as a bus overturned in a bid to save a pedestrian here on Sunday on Raiwind Road near Atheelpur village.
Reports said the bus (LR-3835) carrying a marriage party was on its way to Kasur from Buchekey. Near Atheelpur, the driver applied emergency brakes in a bid to save a pedestrian. As a result of which the vehicle overturned, killing Tasawar Ahmed (18) and injuring 26 others, including 10 women, and seven children. The injured were rushed to DHQ hospital. Kasur police have arrested the bus driver and was investigating.
ANTI-POLIO DRIVE: About 0.462 million children below the age of five have been administered polio vaccine in the district during a three-day campaign.
This was stated by EDO (health) Dr Jamil here on Sunday.
The EDO said 1,059 teams, comprising 2,100 employees of the health department, accomplished the target.
Meanwhile, DCO Saeed Akhtar Ansari paid surprise visits to Raja Jang and Rao Khanwalla villages to check implementation of the campaign.
