NAROWAL, Nov 14: A district police team has allegedly tortured some members of a labourer’s family after trespassing on their residence at Data Goraya village.
According to reports, seven policemen entered labourer Bashir Ahmad’s house by scaling the wall around 10pm on Monday. Identifying the team heads as sub-inspector Rana Abdul Ghafoor, the Domala police post incharge, and head constable Muhammad Arshad, Bashir alleged that they tortured and badmouthed the women.
He alleged that the raiding police party also took him to Domala police post where they tortured him and let him go only after taking Rs4,000 as bribe.
He said a few days ago his son Farooq had a quarrel with Javed and Fayyaz of the same village, but the local elders mediated between the two parties. The police might have conducted a raid regarding that case, he said.
However, SI Abdul Ghafoor told this correspondent that the police had conducted raids to arrest Farooq, son of Bashir Ahmad, and Javed, son of Ibrahim, who were wanted by the police in a dacoity incident.
The labourer’s family, on the other hand, has appealed to the chief minister to order stern action against the ‘corrupt’ police officials.
