MUMBAI, Nov 14: Leading Bollywood star and former Miss World Aishwarya Rai has been called in for questioning by Indian customs officials after they discovered a parcel addressed to her containing a large wad of euros.

Customs officials in Mumbai said a packet with 23,000 euros (29,000 dollars) addressed to the star landed at the foreign post office a few weeks ago.

“We have called Ms Rai to our office for questioning but no case has been registered in this matter so far,” customs commissioner A.K Prasad told reporters in Mumbai.

Mr Prasad said getting more than 5,000 rupees (111 dollars) from overseas by post was a punishable offence. The official said the packet may have been sent as payment for the star's overseas dance shows, or as a publicity stunt without her consent.—AFP
