FAISALABAD, Nov 13: Unidentified dacoits killed a guard and injured two ghee factory employees on resistance on Samundari Road here on Sunday night.
Reports said that bandits entered the factory owned by MPA Malik Muhammad Nawaz and held guards and employees hostage at gunpoint. On offering resistance, the intruders opened fire on guard Ahmed Yar, killing him on the spot while Amjad of Chak 233 and Abdul Wadood of Chak 232 sustained injuries. They were shifted to hospital while dacoits managed to escape from the scene.
Police are investigating the matter.
POLIO VACCINE: The local administration has divided the district into 71 zones and constituted 2,741 teams for a three-day polio eradication drive being launched from Tuesday (today).
A meeting was held here on Monday with DCO Azam Sulman in the chair to finalise the arrangements of the drive.
Participants of the meeting were informed that 2,172 mobile, 365 static and 204 transit teams would administrate polio vaccine to about 1.15 million children up to five years of age.
The health department has appointed 436 area in charges to supervise the performance of teams entrusted with the task to make this campaign a success.
The DCO directed the people engaged in the polio vaccine campaign to ensure the vaccination of all children even in houses or on roads.
PROBE: The Punjab government on Monday ordered a probe into the incident of alleged desecration of the Holy Quran which occurred here about a month ago in Nishatabad police precincts.
Two accused, James Masih, 57, and his cousin Boota Masih, 55, were rounded up by police for allegedly burning some pages of the holy book in Munir Abad, Bhai Wala, on Oct 8 this year.
The incident had caused communal tension in the area which is also inhabited by some Christian families who had to be shifted to some safe places.
Nishatabad police had registered a case against the accused under section 295-B of the Pakistan Penal Code and 7-ATA on Oct 8.
Sources said the home department also stressed the need for an awareness campaign to forge inter-faith harmony and to curb upward trend in such occurrences.
