KOHAT, Nov 11: Six women councillors have already returned unopposed in the bye-elections scheduled for November 22 to fill 19 local council seats.

While there are eight contestants in the run for three seats reserved for Muslim general councillors, 10 seats will remain vacant as nobody filed nomination papers for contesting on these seats.

According to unofficial results, those returning unopposed are Farhat Naheed from urban-2 on Muslim general seat, Shahida Bibi from urban-5 on lady farmer seat, Bibi Mafia from Gumbat on Muslim general seat, Jamsheda Bibi from Shah on Muslim general seat and Zardana Begum and Zara Jan from Mandoori on Muslim general seats.

Three contestants are in the run for one urban-4 seat that fell vacant due to the death of Javed Khan. The contestants are Israfuddin, Ghayyur Khan and Sultan Nawaz.

In union council Surgul, there are five contestants for two Muslim general councillor seats. The contestants are Ayub Khan, Abdul Qudoos, Masood Khan, Razeem Khan and Zahir Shah, and a tough contest is expected among them.

According to the election commission, the final list of candidates would be released on November 13 and election symbols allotted the same day. Civil judge-I Abdul Basit and civil judge-II Qudratullah Khan have been appointed as returning officers.
