TMA staff’s strike against police

BAHAWALPUR, Oct 28: Employees of Ahmedpur East Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) on Saturday went on strike for an indefinite period against what they said the police’s failure to arrest two traders.

Reports said the shopkeepers had attacked an anti-encroachment squad of TMA last week and injured some officials who had demolished their illegal structures.

After the incident, the police allegedly delayed registration of a case.

Later on the intervention of tehsil nazim Makhdum Samiul Hassan Gilani, the police registered the case after the injured employees secured medico-legal certificate, but did not arrest the accused.

The protesters demanded early arrest of the traders who have got interim bail before arrest.

Meanwhile, the nazim blamed the police, saying that the employees went on strike despite his efforts to pacify them.

Mr Gilani said he would take up the matter with police highups on Monday (tomorrow).

DENGUE FEVER: The health department has announced formation of a committee in order to provide guidance and protection regarding dengue virus here.

The DO (health) said on Saturday the committee would work under the supervision of executive district office and create awareness among the people about hazards of the virus. The committee would also motivate the masses to take preventive measures.
