Recounting of votes allowed

PESHAWAR, Oct 28: The Election Tribunal while accepting application of the runner-up candidate for Nazim Town Two slot, on Saturday allowed re-counting of the votes and fixed Nov 27 for re-practice.

The lawyer of the runner-up candidate contended before the court that the tribunal had earlier ordered re-counting of votes for the slot.

However, town Nazim Mohammad Sharif had consulted the Peshawar High Court against the decision due to which election tribunal’s order were not implemented for the time being.

Arguing on behalf of the applicant Mohammad Younas Jan, who remained second in the election for the slot, his counsellor requested the tribunal to fix a new date for re-counting of the votes polled during the election of the town council two Nazim seat.

After hearing the arguments from both sides, the tribunal accepted the application and allowed re-counting of the votes on Nov 27.

Mohammad Sharif, the existing nazim of Town Two of district Peshawar had won the election against Younas Jan with a very thin majority therefore the runner up candidate had submitted an application with the Election Tribunal for recounting of votes.—PPI
