PML-N names dist coordinators

Published October 28, 2006

LAHORE, Oct 27: In what can be regarded as an important step to prepare the party for the next general election, the PML-N leadership has appointed coordinators for all districts to assess the party position and propose electable candidates for all national and provincial constituencies.

Party sources say to ensure that reports are prepared in an impartial manner, coordinators will not come from the districts they have been appointed for.

They are required to submit their reports to Nawaz Sharif by the end of the next month. However, in case they required more time, the deadline could be extended.

The coordinators will examine the performance of the sitting legislators and ticket-holders who could not win the previous election. In case their performance is not satisfactory or the possibility of their winning the next election is not very strong, the coordinators will propose alternative candidates. And if strong replacements are not available, the coordinators will try to bring people from other parties to the PML-N fold.

Answering a question, the sources said initially the PML-N would prepare a list of its own candidates for all constituencies, but this did not mean electoral adjustments with other parties would not be made.

They said adjustments would be made with all parties like the PPP, the PONM, the MMA and the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf.
