Inflated phone bills

TOBA TEK SINGH, Oct 22: The PTCL subscribers have complained about the issuance of inflated bills for the month of October despite launching the much-trumpeted media campaign to the contrary.

Some subscribers told this correspondent that the PTCL had publicised in the national press last month that it had reduced its tariff for the local and nationwide calls but they were surprised to receive the bills with rather inflated call charges.

A customer said he had been charged Rs2.50 per minute for a mobile call, although the PTCL previously used to charge Rs2.12 for the same duration.

Many other subscribers made similar complaints and protested over ‘overcharging’ by the PTCL authorities. They have urged the higher authorities to take stock of the irregularity by the new management of the company.

When contacted, PTCL revenue officer Tasneem Akhtar Khan said the revenue office had no concern with billing and all this task was done by the Faisalabad computer office. He, however, admitted that the company had charged higher call rate this month.

He claimed that the PTCL headquarters had issued a notification on Sept 15 in which it explained that local call rate was now Rs2.50 per minute (excluding tax). — Correspondent
