GUJRANWALA, Oct 19: Over 90 people, who had fainted on Wednesday night after the leakage of a chlorine gas cylinder in Wazirabad, were relieved from hospitals while the condition of 10 others was described as stable.

Wazirabad TMO along with City SHO Chaudhry Maqbool is conducting an inquiry into the incident.

Most of the residents, who evacuated the area on the advice of the police and the municipal authority, have returned to their homes. Some people came back at sehr time.

It was reported that labourers of the municipal committee were loading the scrap on to a truck when the nozzle of a cylinder, lying in the scrap near a water tank, got damaged that caused the gas leakage.

Taking in the situation, the labourers took to their heels instead of trying to stop the leakage. In no time, the gas spread in several areas, including Muhallah Shehro, Circular Road, Moti Bazaar and Lahori Gate. Consequently, over 100 people became unconscious, including women and children. While most of the people hurriedly came out of their houses and took shelter in the open areas.

Receiving information, the Wazirabad TMO and the policemen hastened to the area and rushed the affected people to the THQ Hospital. Some of them were shifted to the Gujranwala DHQ Hospital on account of shortage of beds in THQ Hospital.

GEPCO: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company has established emergent centers at almost all sub-divisional offices for smooth provision of power during the Eid holidays which would work round the clock. This was stated by company chief executive Rana Muhamamd Ashraf Zahid at a briefing here on Thursday. He said that consumers could contact company headquarter complaint cell on emergency 118 or 055-9200516 and 9200504 in case of suspension of power supply besides contacting concerned executive and superintendent engineers. He appealed to citizens to bar their children from flying kites.

RELEASED: As many 18 prisoners involved in minor cases were released by the district and sessions judge during his visit to the local jail on Thursday.

Meanwhile, local anti-terrorism court-1 adjourned the Silakot jail case hearing till Saturday (tomorrow) as DPOs Raja Munawer Hassan and Amjed Javed Saleemi could not attend the court proceedings.

RESULT: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Gujranwala, will announce results of matric supplementary exams on Nov 28 and that of intermediate supplementary on Jan 10.
