Gulfaraz XI, Zafar XI win

KARACHI, Oct 16: Gulfaraz XI and Zafar XI scored facile victories to reach Champions Trophy hockey tournament semi-finals at UBL Sports Complex on Sunday.

Three-goal Rizwan guided Gulafarz XI to a 5-2 win over Munawwar XI in the first quarter-final of the day.

The losers grabbed the lead in the eighth minute of the game when Masood converted a penalty corner. Owais Khan’s equaliser for Gulfaraz XI in the 12th minute was followed by an Atif goal in the 19th minute for Munawwar XI.

Rizwan slotted home in the 27thand 41st minute to make it 3-2. Masood Ahad netted the fourth in the 45th minute for the winners, while Rizwan completed the tally two minutes later.

Zafar XI got the better of Jamil XI 3-1 in another quarter-final.

Although the losers got off a confident start through an Irfan Ali goal in the 16th minute, it proved a consolation as winners equalised 10 minutes later when Amir Zafar converted a penalty corner.

Rizwan Khan struck in the 40th minute for the winners before Mahmood Ali found the target in the 54th minute.
