3 die in Kashmir gunbattle

SRINAGAR, Oct 13: Two Kashmiri militants and an army soldier were killed in a gunbattle in a village in occupied Kashmir, police said on Friday.

The fighting erupted on Thursday in Alyapora village, 50 kilometres south of Srinagar, when troops and police raided a house where rebels were hiding, a police spokesman said.

“During the night-long gunbattle, two militants and an army soldier were killed,” the spokesman said, adding around 500 civilians were evacuated from adjoining houses before the operation was launched.—AFP
