ISLAMABAD, Oct 13: Pakistan will be sending another consignment of relief goods to Beirut over the weekend as part of its continuing efforts to bring solace to the people of Lebanon.

The consignment consisting of 10 metric tons of medicines is being dispatched on the instructions of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, the Foreign Office announced on Friday. It is scheduled to land at the Beirut airport on Monday and the Embassy of Pakistan there would handover the medicines to the Lebanese authorities.

Pakistan had earlier dispatched six plane-loads of humanitarian supplies to Lebanon including food items, medicines, tents and blankets.

Reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to extending additional humanitarian assistance to Lebanon, the Foreign Office spokesperson said: The Government of Pakistan is taking steps to send de-mining contingent to Lebanon for clearing explosive devices, which continue to pose a threat to the Lebanese people.

The government announced on Sept 9 its decision to send a special contingent to Lebanon exclusively for de-mining operations and clearing of debris, including unexploded ordnance in southern Lebanon.—Q.A.
