SUKKUR, Oct 12: Members of the district council on Wednesday called for removal of SHOs and officials they alleged were posted on political considerations.

They said that an alarming rise had been noticed in incidents of robbery especially during the holy month of Ramazan.

Despite a hue and cry from opposition members, treasury members adopted three suggestions.

Convener Abdul Ghumro presented a statement about Rs4 million utilised by the education department in the last financial year.

EDO (education) Ghaffar Mahar briefed the council on expenditures while opposition members sought an explanation about the utilisation of funds.

The convener of the council presented a motion for approval of the expenditure which was adopted by majority of treasury members.

Many members both from the treasury and the opposition condemned the deteriorating law and order situation in the district in general and in Sukkur city in particular.

They said that the ratio of street crimes was on a constant rise and a sense of insecurity was prevailing among the law abiding citizens.

They said that police offi-

cials were responsible for the same.

It was for the first time that besides opposition members, the treasury members also expressed their anxiety over the worsening law and order situation.

The members said that contaminated water was being supplied to the people as a result different epidemics have hit the district.

They said that all the main roads of the city were in a shambles while sewage water was adding to miseries of the people.

They said that despite a lapse of one year, the district government had miserably failed to provide civic amenities to people.

They demanded immediate removal of corrupt officials responsible for the mess.
