LAHORE, Oct 8: PPP leader Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, who arrived here from Islamabad on Sunday, told various party leaders the kinds of offers he was made by the government and which he did not accept because of his principled stand.

Khalid Kharl, Mushtaq Awan, Munir Ahmad Khan, Azizur Rahman Chan, Zakariya Butt, Pir Nazim Shah and others met the former NA speaker at his residence and presented him bouquets and sweets. They also congratulated him for his steadfastness.

Gilani told them that once a federal minister told him that he would easily win the next election from the PPP’s platform. But, the minister reportedly said, he should join hands with Gen Musharraf if he needed his support.

Mr Gilani said he refused to commit that he would support a dictator at any cost.

On another occasion, Mr Gilani recalled, his wife was advised to file an application for the release of her husband on parole. —Staff Reporter
