HYDERABAD, Oct 4: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam has ordered an inquiry into delay in draining out rainwater from parts of Latifabad and Qasimabad talukas.

He is reported to have entrusted the inquiry to a three-member team.

A Karachi-based official said that the inquiry team would be headed by Nawaz Memon, the director-general (technical) of the chief minister’s inspection team.

The other members of the team are Dr Waliullah Dal (OSD) and inspection team’s deputy director Nazeer Mahar.

The team members are reported to have already met the Hyderabad DCO and asked him to prepare record of the status of different development projects being executed by the district government, utilisation and release of funds and status of development schemes.

The official said that terms of reference of the inquiry were being prepared which would cover issues related to Rs10.5 billion Hyderabad Development Package (HDP) announced by President Gen Pervez Musharraf and what are the reasons for the delay in disposal and draining out of rainwater from Latifabad and Qasimabad talukas following September 7 and 8, rains.

The chief minister had expressed his dissatisfaction over working of the HDA and Wasa during a visit of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on September 17.

He said that officers of Wasa and HDA had been serving there for a long time but they could not even fix motors on elevated surfaces for draining out rainwater.
