Incidence of crime high in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, Sept 27: Crime cases registered a sharp rise in the city during the first nine months of the current year as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

All types of crimes in Peshawar have increased, particularly kidnapping, abduction and murder. In the year 2005, 292 persons were reportedly killed. But in the current year so far 333 people have been killed, according to official figures.

So far, 414 cases of attempt to murder have been registered at different police stations. In the year 2005, 350 such cases had been reported. Besides, 456 people were hurt with firearms and other incidents while last year 433 people were injured.

Thirteen cases of kidnapping for ransom were registered last year. During the current year, 16 persons have been kidnapped for ransom, while the case of ordinary kidnapping cases also increased from 15 to 29 in the corresponding period of the year.

The cases of child lifting also increased four times from only three cases last year to 11 cases reported so far this year.

Cases of abduction under Zina Ordinance increased from 16 in the year 2005 to 19 during the current year. Twelve cases of Zina were registered this year in comparison to nine last year.
