QUETTA, Sept 23: Gas supply was suspended to some areas of the provincial capital when a gas pipeline was blown up near the Brewery road on Saturday.

An explosive device fitted with a timer went off late at night damaging the eight-inch diameter pipeline passing through the Brewery Nullah.

A senior officer of the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) said that the pipeline caught fire following the explosion.

He said that gas was disconnected from the main distribution system.

However, the remaining gas in the pipeline was burning till the last reports.

Gas supply was suspended to Hazara Town, Khoratabad, Sabzal road and some other areas of the city.

Repair work would begin on Sunday after security clearance from the police, the SSGC official said, adding that restoration of the gas supply could take 12 to 18 hours.
