Protest against killing of villagers

HARIPUR, Sept 23: Angry people ransacked government buildings and torched an official vehicle in protest against the killing of eight villagers here on Saturday.

The Kot Najibullah police registered criminal cases against the protesters.

The mob blocked the main GT road near Sera-e-Gadai and Taxila-Haripur road, causing suspension of traffic for many hours.

The protestors, demanding immediate arrest of those who gunned down the eight villagers on Thursday, also set ablaze a health department vehicle and damaged the Kot Najibullah Railway Station, a rural health centre, a police station and the residence of DSP Hattar Range.

Two policemen were injured when the angry mob pelted police with stones while a protester sustained injuries as a result of heavy shelling by the police.

Meanwhile, according to SHO Kot Najibullah police station, a collective FIR against the mob was registered under sections 148, 149, 186, 189, 324, 341, 353, 427, 436 and 506 PPC.
