KARACHI, Sept 22: Sohail Siddiqi carded five over par 77 to claim the 18-hole seniors gross title on the opening day of the two-day Motorola Golf Tournament at the lush green course of Karachi Golf Club (KGC) on Friday.

A seven-handicapper, Sohail fired two birdies on back nine at 11th and 18th hole to top the leader board. Finishing four strokes behind was Sohail K. Rana, the KGC club captain, who fired a three-birdie 81.

Ejaz S. Hashim grabbed the seniors net title with a score of 73 to be followed by president, Sindh Golf Association (SGA), Aslam R. Khan at 76.

Ms Sherin Khan played a round of 87 to win the ladies gross title. She was followed by lady captain KGC, Durdana Soomro, with 95.

Mubariz Ahmed logged 92 to annex juniors gross crown while the net title went to Zohaibul Haq with 77.

There was a three-way tie for top slot at the end of nine-hole veterans net competition. Those who are tied at 35 are Bobby Sheik, Farouq Rahimtoola and Sohaib Naqvi.

A decision in this regard will be taken on Saturday.

The gross title in the veterans competition was annexed by Tahir Karamat with 40. Finishing runners up a stroke behind was Col M. Z. K. Burki.

The 18-hole amateurs competition will tee off Saturday at 10.30am. It has attracted around 60 entries.
