High security ahead of Ramazan

BAHAWALPUR, Sept 22: Security around 630 mosques and imambargahs in the district has been heightened ahead of Ramazan.

This was stated by DPO Muhammad Salim after a meeting of police department to review security arrangements for the holy month here on Friday.

The DPO ordered deployment of extra personnel outside mosques and imambargahs.

He directed his staff to intensify patrolling to maintain law and order.

He issued show-cause notices to 50 officials for poor investigations.

The meeting was told that 50 gangs of robbers were busted and 178 members were arrested in a year.

CHAMBER POLLS: In the first phase of election of Bahawalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the following four members of the executive committee were elected on Friday:

Javed Iqbal, Mian Mahmood Ahmad, Malik Muhammad Khalid and Rana Ahmad Ali.

They belonged to Jabbar group.

Of 300 members, 285 members cast their votes and one vote was declared invalid.

The polling for the office of president will be held on Sept 30.
