PESHAWAR, Sept 21: The Frontier Cable Association (FCA) has vowed to stop screening obscene content on the cable television network and urged the government to resolve their problems.

Speaking at a news conference here on Thursday, Farman Ali Afridi, the association’s coordinator, pledged to cooperate with the provincial government and Pemra in curbing illegal screening of programmes through cables network, saying that they were against all sorts of immorality on electronic media.

However, he said that they would only cooperate if the police or the local administration conducted raids with the permission of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra).

He said that being provincial coordinator, he had dissolved the Sarhad Cables’ Association as the association had failed to resolve outstanding issues of cable operators.

He said that they would hold elections for new office-bearers after the completion of registeration of new members, which was expected to be completed by Sept 30.

He said that there were about 80 cable operators functioning in the province, adding that the FCA enjoyed the support of about 70 per cent of cable operators in the province.
