HARIPUR, Sept 20: A community empowerment desk has been established at the district bar association. The desk, which will provide help to citizens’ community boards will be run by the Devolution Trust for Community Empowerment and the District Bar Association, while the Haripur Press Club will collaborate with both the organisations.

Speaking at a ceremony held here on Wednesday, the Country Manager, Press and Bar, the DTCE, Dr Anwar Butt, said this desk had been set up to provide free legal assistance to the CCBs facing problems in registration, allocation and spending funds. He said the desk would be supported financially by the DTCE.

District Bar Association’s president Maqbool Ahmed said the lawyers would extend support in solving legal problems of the CCBs.

District Coordination Officer Syed Zaheerul Islam said that although the district government system had been conceived and designed in a haphazard manner and it had many pitfalls and shortcomings, the people, elected representatives and the district administration should strengthen the system.
