Vehicles to be sold to only NTN holders

ISLAMABAD, Sept 20: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has asked the local automobiles manufacturers to sell vehicles only to customers having National Tax Number (NTN). It has also withdrawn concessionary duty on import of some components.

The decision was taken through a customs notification SRO 990 of 2006 issued here on Wednesday by amending the notification SRO 656 of 2006.

According to the amendments the manufacturer-cum-assemblers of automotive vehicles shall sell the vehicles to an NTN holder only and the record of the same shall be furnished to the CBR or to any other designated person on a monthly basis.

Similarly, the CBR has withdrawn the concessionary duty in excess of 20 per cent on components required for assembly/ manufacture in any kit form on vehicles of gross vehicle weight (GVW) exceeding 5 tons falling under PCT heading 87.04

It has also withdrawn the concessionary duty in excess of 10 per cent on components for assembly/ manufacture in any kit form--Vehicles of GVW exceeding 5 tons falling under PCT heading 87.04.

The CBR has also exempted the assembly kits of all categories of vehicles subject to conditions that no duty drawback will be claimed at the time of export and the import kits relate to the vehicle of same engine capacity as were exported.

The importer will make a declaration at the time of import that he intends to avail this facility and produces the following evidence of export namely — a copy of the bill of export or goods declaration bearing customs examination report; bill of lading and foreign exchange repatriation certificate.
