HYDERABAD, Sept 19: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil said on Tuesday that three additional water disposal lines had been laid in three days, increasing the total disposal capacity of Hyderabad to 18 million gallons a day.

Keeping in view the pumping capacity, disposal of 250 million gallons of rainwater in eight days from 30 acres of land in unit No 2 of Latifabad was praiseworthy, he said.

Talking to people at the Barkat Bhai pumping station of the Autobhan Road, he said 45 days were required to drain out such a quantity of water with the previous system. The nazim was on inspection of an extended sewerage project.

The Wasa managing-director and other officials of the district government were present on the occasion.

The nazim claimed that 90 per cent of the accumulated rainwater of the low-lying areas of unit No. 2 had already been disposed of while the remaining 10 per cent would also be drained out within the next 24 hours.

He said the pumping station submerged under the rainwater had not only been repaired, but its discharging capacity had also been increased four-five times and water had been drained out in a record period.

He said that after the disposal of rainwater, a cleanliness drive had been launched with additional manpower and machinery.

An anti-mosquito spray campaign, he said, had also been launched throughout the district and gave details of the three newly-laid sewerage lines of 12 inch diameter each.
